For a while now I've been looking for ways to use my experience and knowledge to contribute within the broader design industry. So the timing was great when earlier this year I was approached to join the NSW Branch of The Design Institute of Australia (DIA), Australia's professional membership body for designers and design businesses. I'm happy to have recently been accepted as one of the councillors for the NSW Branch.
As many of you will know, I'm passionate about design...any design really - whether it be graphic design, urban design or car design. Seeing great and clever design is something that stops me in my tracks and creates a great feeling while seeing poorly thought out or bad design frustrates me.
I've found it disappointing that NSW and Sydney hasn't generally embraced the creative and design industry. This has been changing with events like VIVID leading the way as well as City of Sydney's Creative Hubs and Creative City Sydney programs. I hope I can be a part of the DIA further embedding design in our beautiful city and state.
If you have any ideas or want to talk more about it, I'm always up for a coffee. Get in touch.
